Valerie Malabonga - Secretary
I am married to Dan Malabonga, a lawyer. We have one child, 4-year-old Julius, and we are in the process of adopting a second child from the Philippines. We came to the U.S.A. in 1991. I have a Ph.D. in Developmental Psychology; and was a Senior Research Associate at the Center for Applied Linguistics (CAL), where I managed large-scale research projects funded by the federal government. I resigned when we adopted Julius in July 2007. I currently work as a consultant to CAL and the University of Virginia. I am active in Mothers of Preschoolers (MOPS) and Truro International Programs and Services (TIPS) at Truro, an Anglican church. My vision for Balikatan includes the following: a) empower IVCF Philippines to be more financially self-sufficient, b) encourage one other in our journey as immigrants in our adopted country, and c) impart to our children the core values of Balikatan, i.e., carrying one another’s burdens, generosity to people who work full-time building God’s kingdom, and servant leadership. Please pray for our family’s second adoption. Pray also that, by God’s grace, the Board members may be able to balance their Balikatan duties with their responsibilities at home, work, and church.

Thanks Valerie for sharing your vision to Balikatan. It could well be the vision of all of us as we meet every year. I can see you and Dan are already living that out in terms of supporting the work of IVCF Philippines and other Filipino missionaries.
May your tribe increase!
