A Giver’s Gift - Alumnus from Canada

It has been a year now since the Lord called me to financially help support IVCF-Philippines. I am fully convinced that campus ministry is essentially and strategically important in God’s global mission. In particular, it disciples and mobilizes students to catch God’s vision and heart for the people.

Having limited resources and overwhelming financial obligations to tackle, and with threatening global economic recession, I had a dilemma – either to deny or to pursue what God had impressed in my heart. Faith and obedience had yet to be tested. I struggled for a while as I contemplated on the uncertainties of the future. I thought it was a normal reaction. However, from the very depth of my conviction was a compelling desire to follow what God had set for me to do – to support the staff in Iloilo. Although my financial situation at the time was totally debilitating, I was determined to obey the call. I was willing to take the risks.

However, God, who is the ultimate source of every supply, and with His immense liberality, had already planned something much better and bigger than what I can afford to do and imagine. In His perfect timing, I was offered a part-time janitorial job in my home church in Toronto. I have been receiving a pay more than twice the amount allotted for the minimum monthly support I pledged. While rejoicing over this, I was humbled and reminded of the verse in 1 Thessalonians 5:24 that says: “He who calls you is faithful, who also will do it.” Wow, what an assurance and a promise! When God calls, He provides! It is truly amazing to note how God’s sovereign power works!

“Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good.” Psalm 34:8.Some of you have had the opportunity to be with me in this journey. Through your prayers, I have always been strengthened and sustained by His mercy and grace. My spirit continues to soar even though my body seems to drag, sometimes, in pain. Partnership with you has brought tremendous blessings, which bring me into greater heights of experiencing Him. Your giving up careers and personal status for the sake of following God’s leading has an impact on me I am inspired to do the same, however, by assuming an entirely different role.
